Joellyn Duesberry is an integral part of Colorado’s arts landscape. Her plein-air views are a modernist take on a genre nearly as old as art itself, built in splashes of warm color and the structured patterns that underlie both natural and urban settings. She’s one of the state’s most respected artists; not only have her paintings and monotypes been exhibited nationally, but she’s been the subject of a PBS documentary and now a lavish new book, Elevated Perspective: The Paintings of Joellyn Duesberry. The tome, from the University of New Mexico Press, offers a retrospective on Duesberry’s artistic career, with more than 200 pages of artwork and commentary.

Duesberry will present a slide show and talk about her work at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street. Buy a copy of the book for $65 and she’ll sign it for you, too. For details, go to www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-436-1070.
