Let’s be honest: Going out for beers on St. Patrick’s Day can be a grind. There are the overwhelming crowds, the surly bartenders, the fake Irish spirit. And then there are the amateurs. Yes, the inexperienced drinkers who get so blindly drunk that they puke in your lap, knock over tables, and pass out in between the bouncer and the taxi. It’s these drinkers who could really use some practice, the kind they’ll get if they head out today –- the day before St. Patrick’s Day -― for St. Practice Day.

Fadó Irish Pub will welcome anyone who wants a little warm-up today with a corned beef-and-cabbage dinner special from 4 to 10 p.m., live music from the Wild Mountain Celts at 7 p.m., a Bushmills & Baileys promotion at 9 p.m., and plenty of pints.

Go slow and get a feel for it, amateurs. That way you’ll be ready to get up early and head back to Fadó tomorrow at 8 a.m., when the place opens for the real thing. And with all that practicing, you’ll be ready for the street festival that includes an Irish breakfast, live music starting at noon, and lots and lots of booze.

Practice makes perfect – and makes St. Patrick’s Day a little easier on everyone.

Fado’s is at 1735 19th Street. For more information, go to www.fadosirishpub/denver/ or call 303-297-0066.
