When they see the ink and type pressed to the paper, theyre fascinated, he says, adding that its quite a switch from watching a sheet of paper popping out of a laser printer. And Noe and the league are betting that even digitally acclimated adults will share that sense of wonder during todays free Historic Print Shop Open House at the historic Bunkhouse at Ewing Farm, 1915 North 95th Street in Lafayette, where, after some struggle, the leagues been able to set up shop. Featuring traditional nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century typesetting equipment and manual presses donated to the league by the University of Colorado, the shop, which is located in what remains of a Boulder County Centennial Farm, is a true piece of living history in every way possible.
Visitors are invited to try their hand at working the press, watch demonstrations and enjoy refreshments between 1 and 4 p.m.; for details and directions, visit www.bookartsleague.org/ewing.html.
