So you missed Sundance -- so what? The Boulder International Film Festival has something to offer every cinephile, especially those who are looking for something beyond the Oscar offerings that have been out for months.

The fest, which opens tonight at the Boulder Theater with Darling Companion, starring Diane Keaton as a woman who forms a special relationship with a lost dog, continues through February 19 with fifty diverse films. From documentaries like No Room for Rockstars, which chronicles the Vans Warped Tour, to more Hollywood-leaning fare such as Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, starring Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, BIFF boasts something to please a wide variety of cinematic tastes. For those interested in star-spotting, celebrity guests including William H. Macy, Pam Grier and Martin Sheen will be there in person to introduce films and answer questions.

And BIFF doesn't end when the movies do. "We like to capture the passion that film evokes and really turn it into action," says Kathy Beeck, co-founder of the Call to Action Program, which offers a chance for people to get involved in the causes many of the films support rather than just acting as passive movie-goers.

Get into the action at the four-day festival, which takes place at various locations near the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. Tickets for films are $10 to $12, with special events ranging from $15 to $50. Buy tickets and view the full schedule at www.biff1.com.
