Put glass in between you and an object, and you've created a separation much thicker than a see-through pane. Historical museums, in that sense, often fail to forge a connection between the past and the present, because there's little vitality in an empty pair of shoes or a dingy corset.

Today and tomorrow, the Tesoro Foundation will breathe life into Colorado's past with the fifth annual Spanish Market & 1830s Rendezvous at the Fort, 19192 Highway 8 in Morrison. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., delve into the roughneck world of the historical plains with flamenco and fandango dancing, storytellers and interpreters. Wander through a traditional camp and trading-post setting, complete with surly mountain men and rugged female settlers, or watch a tomahawk-throwing competition.

The weekend will also feature 24 Spanish artists, including Dr. Charles Carillo and Jimmy Trujillo, whose works are currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, free for children twelve and under. For more information, call 303-839-1671 or visit www.tesorofoundation.org.
Sat., Sept. 23, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
