The Sound of Ireland

There's something unbelievably catchy about Irish music, whether you're listening to a sad ballad about a young man never to return from battle or a rowdy, rabble-rousing drinking tune. And since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, what better way to get in the mood than by attending a concert tonight...

There's something unbelievably catchy about Irish music, whether you're listening to a sad ballad about a young man never to return from battle or a rowdy, rabble-rousing drinking tune. And since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, what better way to get in the mood than by attending a concert tonight featuring Phil Coulter and the Irish Pops Orchestra?

Coulter's returning to the States for the first time in six years, so Denver is clearly lucky to have him here so close to everyone's favorite Irish holiday. As one of the main players in contemporary Irish music, he's worked with such greats as Van Morrison and Sinéad O'Connor. The concert should include a mix of Coulter's most popular instrumental pieces, spine-tingling Irish melodies and his most requested songs.

Tickets, $35 to $55, are available at www.tickethorse.com or by calling 1-866-461-6565; the all-ages show is at the Paramount Theatre, 1631 Glenarm Place. Call 303-777-0502 for information.
Sun., March 16, 7 p.m., 2008
