Now in its seventh incarnation, the Aurora Asian Film Festival is a showcase for the burgeoning cinematic talents of China, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan and Bhutan. This year's four-day festival will feature more than a dozen new films from Asia and the Pacific Rim, beginning Thursday, June 3, with a premiere of Imelda, Filipino documentarian Ramona Diaz's revealing look at Imelda Marcos. She is, of course, "one of the world's most revered and reviled women," the former first lady of the Philippines, as widely known for her vast collection of shoes as for her arrogance in the face of national poverty and need.

Other works on the schedule include Chinese Odyssey 2002, a parody of early Hong Kong kung fu movies; The Game of Their Lives, a British documentary chronicling the amazing upset performances of the North Korean national soccer team at the 1966 World Cup; South of the Clouds, a Chinese drama about a middle-aged man who returns to his native province of Yunnan trying to discover what his life might have been had he never left home; and S21, in which two survivors of the vast Khmer Rouge genocide of the 1970s return to Cambodia and confront their former captors at the notorious Tuoi Sleng Prison.

Presented by the Denver Film Society and the Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership, and sponsored by the Starz FilmCenter, among others, the festival runs from Thursday, June 3, through Sunday, June 6, at the Aurora Fox Arts Center, 9900 East Colfax Avenue, Aurora. For information and tickets, call 303-893-4100 or log on to www.denverfilm.org. Tickets are also available at all King Soopers stores.
