For those who like to keep their minds (and their Brunswicks) in the gutter, a screening of The Big Lebowski and a few lines of play at a downtown bowling alley should be just the thing this week.

The 1998 movie by Ethan and Joel Coen (of Fargo fame) is, by consensus, one of their lesser works, the story of a slacker who's mistaken for a crime boss. But John Turturro's nice turn as a character called Jesus the Bowler is reason enough to see the thing again -- and reason enough for the Denver Film Society to show it at Lucky Strike Lanes at the Denver Pavlions on the 16th Street Mall as part of the society's fund-aising Summer Circuit series.

The event, called The Gutter Ball, will go from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26. Along with the film, a maximum of 150 $25 ticket holders will also get to bowl, eat bowling alley food and slurp down a drink. The Ball is hosted by Hayden Hirschfeld and Matt Keeney; RSVP to Jennifer Johnson at 303-595-3456, extension 15.
