La Torteria

Don't let the shabby strip mall where La Torteria hides fool you; this little Mexican sandwich shop is full of surprises, including ice-cold beers, taquitos and some of the best tortas in town. Our favorite is the lambada, featuring scrambled eggs, chorizo and pierna (roast pork leg). Sure signs that you're in a palace of pork are the heaps of blistered patos de puerco (pig feet) and strips of chicharrones crackling under a hot lamp, so be sure to include some Michoacán-style pork carnitas in any order -- whether it's a heaping mound of tender pork shreds on a platillo sided with beans and tortillas, a toothsome gordita, or just a by-the-pound order to go.
