From the onset of the stoner-rock sea chanty "Pirates Sail for Portsmouth," which opens ...In the Land of Sin, you get the sense that the members of Amputators do their writing with a bit of tongue in their cheeks. "Muscle Truck" ups the ante on the concept of the muscle car and self-referential masculine bravado with a nearly cartoonish menace mid-song. By the time the outfit dives into "Gineshine '69," with its references to "camel toe" and "donkey punch," you start to wonder if these guys might be serious about some of this. But then "Rocky Mountain Medical High," "Beaver Canyon Fur Trader" and "Make It Stop" more or less confirm the extended joke. Nevertheless, the fuzzy sludge rock on ...In the Land of Sin, reminiscent of Jeff Pinkus's Honky in tone and sonic intent, is best enjoyed by those who like their hard rock loud and consistent.
