Maybe you've seen the documentary on Anvil, the Canadian metal band that formed in 1978 and reportedly influenced bands like Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica. The Independent Spirit Award-winning documentary The Story of Anvil helped bring the band out of near obscurity after founding members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner re-formed the band in 2006. You've got two chance the band when it plays at the Black Sheep on Saturday, March 7 and the Marquis Theater on Sunday, March 8. Tickets ($12-$15) are on sale now.

John Doe of the legendary punk band X returns to the Lions Lair once again for two nights on Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30, with Jesse Dayton opening. Tickets ($22) are on sale now.

The superb New Orleans-based trumpeter Nicholas Payton will be at Dazzle with bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Bill Stewart on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, and tickets ($25) are on sale now.
