Orlando's Baby Anne (slated to hit the Church this Thursday, November 3) is more than a token female DJ -- she's one of America's most popular DJs, period. Encouraged by DJ Icey to start spinning back in '92, Baby's mix of breaks and booty-shaking Miami bass quickly gained a dedicated following everywhere from raves to mainstream dance clubs and earned her the nickname "Bass Queen." Since then, she's released a slew of original singles on Icey's Zone Records, plus six mix discs, all of which have solidified her place in America's breakbeat community. This year, Baby Anne teamed up with electro-industrial artist Jen Lasher for a CD titled Assault and Battery. The pair's clever synthesis of breaks, electro and industrial has yielded a wholly original sound and further exemplifies what DJs should be doing in 2005: breaking down genre barriers and embracing music based on its own merit, while ignoring scene politics.
