Christian Smith's discography reads like an international party list, on which all of the best names from around the electronic-music universe have been checked off at one point or another. It's no surprise that his music should have a global flair: Though he lived in both New York and Washington, D.C., after catching the DJ bug, Smith's career gained the most speed in his native Sweden, and he is now a sought-after producer known for balancing on the wire between tribal techno and hard-pumping house. Though he mans his own label, Tronic, he's released a multitude of discs on labels in both the United States and Europe, and he still spends his weekends performing for packed houses from behind a unique three-turntable setup. It's no minor coup that Vinyl was able to woo Smith to Denver on Saturday, December 21. Besides being exhilarating, a night of sweaty head funk by someone named Christian oughta score some points with Santa.
