No doubt, Denver is down for a dance party any time of the year. There's something about the warming temperatures, though, that makes us want to get out and shake our asses just a little bit more. Enter Damn Gurl!, a new night of booty bass, pop and funky house celebrating its inaugural throwdown tonight at 700 Kalamath Street.

The monthly event will put a strong emphasis on its queer-friendly environment by providing a "very open, free and safe space for people to come together and express themselves," says party participant Lauren Zwicky (aka DJ Narky Stares). Zwicky says this night was created by friend and Damn Gurl! organizer Israel Oka, who desired to do something outside of club or bar environment, making it truly be open to all.

The donation-based event will kick off tonight at 8 p.m. with musical performances by Hideous Men and Alphabets, and a burlesque set by Juanita WoW! -- all of which will be broadcast live on Denver Open Media's local cable channel. DJ sets by Narky Stares, Jojo and Uptack will carry the party into the wee hours, and money collected will be given to Praxus.org, a group in Denver working to combat domestic human trafficking.
