Two of the biggest names in drum-and-bass, Ed Rush and Optical headline Reload this Saturday at City Hall. The pair practically co-founded the techno-influenced techstep subgenre in the 1990s. Their 1998 album, Wormhole, remains a genre classic, while the duo's latest effort, 2009's Travel the Galaxy, is widely regarded as a proper return to form. Local support provided by Liquid Stranger, MC Dino, Fury, Smash Bros., Shoebox, Dozha and Sureshot. ($25, 18+)
Robbie Rivera plays the main floor of Beta Saturday night. His brand of commercial house music attracts a big crowd, but the real story will be upstairs, as Awesome Factory and Flatline Productions have joined forces to bring techno phenom Maetrik to the Beatport Lounge. The Spanish DJ/Producer, who also writes under the pseudonym Maceo Plex, has absolutely blown up in recent years and is truly one of the most impressive acts in underground techno. ($15-$20, 18+)
Sub.mission continues its winning streak of killer dubstep parties next week with Appleblim, who plays Cervantes' Other Side on Tuesday. The Bristol-based dubstep producer co-founded the influential Skull Disco label with fellow iconoclast Shackleton in 2005, releasing some of the most innovative recordings to come out of the dubstep genre during its brief, three-year history. Sub.mission's Budros Gali also performs, along with Ginger Perry, Rob Bass, Soleil PhunkE and Seeda. ($10, 18+)
