What's not to love about DeVotchKa? To hear its songs even once is to fall hopelessly, head over heels in love. With what, you ask? Anything and anyone within earshot, as the music makes the most mundane things seem worthy of romanticizing. Even when the band is covering other people's songs, as it does quite eloquently on its latest disc, Curse Your Little Heart, the sweet sounds that emanate, especially from Nick Urata's golden throat, are simply intoxicating -- enough to prompt a knuckle-dragging, PBR-swilling cretin to reach for a smoking jacket and a glass of merlot. DeVotchKa is having a similar effect on the rest of the country: This past spring, the group collected positive notices at Sundance for its score of Little Miss Sunshine, a film staring Steve Carrell and Greg Kinnear that hits theaters on July 26. And last month, it shared a bill with Radiohead at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. DeVotchKa stops by the Ogden Theatre this Friday, July 14, to officially release its new platter. Be there, or you will Curse Your Little Heart for having missed it.
