Our first memories of getting stoned are exactly like that little piece of resin behind the stem in your bong: No matter how hard you try, it will never go away. The first time getting high opens a world of wonders. Whether you were cruising around in a homie's ride or sitting in a basement rippin' a joint and listening to Cypress Hill -- your first time always resonates. Last week, of course, our state made history by voting to legalize marijuana for recreational use. In honor of this momentous occasion -- and while the specific legalities are being ironed out with the feds -- we thought we'd take a few minutes to catch up with various members of our musical community, the known imbibers, and get their thoughts on the whole issue. Today, the brothers in Two Fresh talk to us about their first time smoking and give us their thoughts on the impending legislation.

Westword: So, you guys smoke pot?
Kendrick Nichols: Yes.
Sherwyn Nichols: Yes.
All right, all right. Can you tell me about the first time you smoked pot?
Sherwyn Nichols: My memory of smoking pot and getting high, at least -- because I smoked pot once before and didn't get high -- I was going to the library in like eighth or ninth grade, and my older brother picked me up from school in his blue Blazer, and we smoked a blunt. And I got so high that I just -- it was just me and him ridin' around smoking a blunt listening to the new Ludacris album -- I think it was Word of Mouf.
And we riding around, and I'm so high that I'm like, "I'm not going into the library. I gotta go home." So my mom is back at the crib. I'm so high, I just tell my mom I'm super-tired and going downstairs to take a nap. I'm just wiggin' out, I'm so high. So my older brother goes upstairs and took the whole heat for me. I was down for the count. From then on, it was getting chiefed.
Kendrick Nichols: My first memory was with him, our older brother and our homie from down the street. And it was fuckin late-late night, and he had told me about -- we tried it together -- he said, "It's fucking crazy." So we blazed down this little mini-bong outside the house. I remember just going to a different world.
You guys are both residents and registered out here in Colorado?
Sherwyn Nichols: Oh, yeah, did that right away.
What do you think about Amendment 64 passing?
Sherwyn Nichols: I'm about it. Ever since you started smoking pot, you think, "Why the fuck could I go to jail for this?" I've been to jail for it, ya know. Ever since then, I feel it's just for relaxation -- it should be for everyone. Everyone should be able to have it. Having that happen just makes you feel good, especially in a country like this. Your vote really counts. I actually did something. Our generation made a difference. So I think it's amazing.
Kendrick Nichols: He got it.
