Although Fat Possum Records has branched out over the years with the acquisition of bands like the Walkmen, bolstering a roster that already includes such groups as Dinosaur Jr., Andrew Bird, Lissie and Heartless Bastards, really, it's still about the last place on earth you'd expect to find an act like Jaguar Love. Made up of former Blood Brothers Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato, Jaguar Love purveys a mangled brand of electro that is a world away from the rustic, threadbare blues of flagship artists like Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside. Exhuming the corpse of new wave and then filling its lungs with helium and its veins with bathtub crank, Jaguar Love's music sounds like a synth-drenched soundtrack to new millennium neurosis that you can dance to, with Whitney reassuring everyone in his trademark, high-pitched wail that "Everything Is Awesome." Indeed, sir. Awesome, Possum.
