This Saturday, in celebration of the store's two-year anniversary and the release of our own Noah Van Sciver's Blammo #6, Kilgore will be hosting kil Gorefest II from 2:30 - 6:00 p.m., with performances by Bongo Fury, Lust Cats of the Gutters and Old Radio.
If you're weary of the store's tiny space getting in the way of a fun time (although, we'd venture to guess their neighbor Wax Trax might be lending some assistance with the space), consider the bands you're dealing with. While Bongo Fury's name might evoke something furious, the bands subtle textures and subdued mood are a perfect fit for a bookshop. With their unamplified instruments and floor sitting aesthetic, the group will be right at home next to a copy of R. Crumb's Genesis.
If you're interested in a bit more balls-to-the-wall rock, Lust Cats might fill that void with their Vaselines-inspired two-piece punk rock goodness. If all that's still not enough, then Old Radio is sure to fit the bill, combining a spur of influences guaranteeing that everyone will be able to find something about the band to like.
It's always nice to see new shops in town make it to their first anniversary, which means the second one is twice as special. If you're a fan of the store, you've certainly already got this marked on your calendar and if not, consider it an excellent time to get acquainted. Hell, if none of that floats your boat, then at least stop by for the champagne toast.
