Happy Thursday! And, oh, what a happy Thursday it is indeed, friend. We've got a freshly recorded tune to bless you with today from the In the Whale dudes, an iconic tune by the Violent Femmes called "Add It Up," a gritty little ditty you probably know better by its naughty refrain, "Why can't I get just one fuck?" This is just a taste to entice you in advance of the band's forthcoming record, Eric, which is slated for release next month. Vocalist Nate Valdez chose the track, which was recorded at UI Studios up in Boulder; keep reading to find out why he chose that particular tune.

"Since the creation of In the Whale, the Violent Femmes have been a major influence for the band," Valdez explains. "It only made sense for Eric and I to show [our] respect by recording one of their fans' -- and our -- favorite songs, 'Add it up.' We had been kicking around the idea of releasing a cover song all summer, and when we realized 2013 is the 30th anniversary of the Femmes self-titled debut, it made it a no-brainer. This song has had a lasting effect on us, and we hope that it will continue to influence other inspiring aspiring musicians."
