Sharon Rawles, who had recently fallen gravely ill and was placed in hospice last week, passed away late yesterday afternoon. Rawles left a major mark on the Denver music community, from her time at Herman's Hideaway, where she worked for over a dozen years first as a door person and then as a manager (not as booking agent for the club, as we originally reported -- Allan Roth handled those duties) to her time booking Cricket on the Hill and the Blue Mule. Countless musicians remember her fondly as someone who gave them their first leg up in the scene. "For me, she gave many of my bands their first chance gigs," wrote Fever Dream drummer Madison Lucas in an e-mail last night. "And for so many more like me, she gave new music in Denver its chance!"
