When coming up with a moniker for their project, Jess Parsons and Steve Varney wanted a name that would match their lush, inviting music. The name Glowing House fits the indie-folk act perfectly, suggesting a warmly lit, welcoming mountain home in winter. The group has followed last year's excellent sophomore album, Days Run Out, with The Down & Out, an equally engaging EP. Lumineers comparisons are inevitable because of the rustic presentation — that might not be a bad thing, depending how you look at it — even if Glowing House takes a slightly different route. Parsons and Varney are both fine singers when handling lead vocals, but when their voices blend, it's damn near sublime, especially on cuts like "Nobody Follow Me."
