Today's marks another bummer day for the Denver music scene. We were just informed that Wu Fei, a master of the guzheng (a traditional Chinese stringed instrument) that has worked with John Zorn and Cecil Taylor, is preparing to move to New York after living in Denver for the past four years.
For her Mile High swan song, Fei, who played an amazing set in Denver last January with guitarists Fred Frith and Janet Feder, will team up again with Feder for a farewell show of original compositions and improvisations. Fei and Feder will each peform a solo set, as well as performing together, on Thursday, July 17 at Object+Thought Gallery (3559 Larimer Street). The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and there’s a $10 cover at the door. In the fall, Fei will release her second album, Yuan, on Zorn’s Tzadik imprint, followed by Shan Qi, a DVD that was filmed in the Italian Alps.
