Alex Perez Busted in Colorado, Two Kids Safe After Michigan Double Murder

Alex Perez, 24, was arrested early this morning in Georgetown mere hours after an Amber Alert was issued in Michigan regarding him and his two children — Nova and Luna, ages four and three, respectively.

The kids are safe and Perez is in custody — and suspected of committing a double murder in Michigan before fleeing the state.

The bodies of the two victims — a woman said to be Perez's wife and a thus-far-unidentified male — weren't found until around 9 p.m. last night, January 14, in Hagar Township, in Berrien County.

The likely cause of death, WSBT-TV maintains, was blunt force trauma.


The victims were discovered by a concerned relative, who, according to WNDU-TV, had to access the home where the slaying took place by climbing into an upper-floor window using a ladder, because the doors were locked.

One victim is said to have been on the second floor of the residence, while the other was on the ground floor.

Suspicions immediately turned toward Perez, particularly given that his two children were missing.

Adding to the concern: Investigators believe the killings actually took place between 7 and 10 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 — a time frame that gave Perez a considerable head start on authorities.


But his run came to an end mere hours ago.

This morning at approximately 1:09 a.m., according to the Clear Creek Sheriff's Office, a deputy on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle in Georgetown.

The ride, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, was parked, but it had its lights on and its engine running.

The deputy saw a trio later ID'd as Perez and the kids inside, and after learning from dispatch that the license plate on the Impala matched one connected to the Michigan double murder, he moved in.


Perez was cuffed after what's characterized as a brief struggle.

The kids are now in protective custody, and no doubt plans are underway to transport them, and Perez, back to Michigan.
