Blair Jackson, Off-Duty Cop, Busted for Homicide in Fatal Road Rage Crash

Did an off-duty police officer's case of road rage result in a homicide?

That's the working theory in regard to a fatal crash in Weld County.

Authorities have arrested Blair Jackson, a 48-year-old police officer for the community of Ault, on suspicion of second-degree homicide and reckless driving resulting in death.

At around 6 p.m. yesterday, June 1, according to the Weld County Sheriff's Office, the Platteville Police Department got word of a traffic accident on Highway 85 near Weld County Road 32.5, located between the towns of Gilcrest and Platteville.

Two vehicles were involved: a black Ford Ranger whose thus-far-unidentified driver was killed when it rolled off the road, and a green Subaru handled by Jackson.

The WCSO account notes that "preliminary investigation found that this incident was a result of road rage" — hence Jackson's arrest.

Jackson's online footprint is almost nonexistent beyond the mention of his name on the Town of Ault website. He's listed as one of four patrol officers in a department whose other members consist of a chief, a detective and four reserves.

The Platteville Police Department is taking the lead on the investigation, with assists from the Weld County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol.
