That's the assertion of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in regard to Brian John Neafus. Early last Thursday, the ACSO was called to investigate a burglary at the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority administration building; someone had made off with Valium, morphine and other substances with medical and recreational uses. The system showed that the access card issued to a South Metro employee had been used, but he'd been out of town at the time of the incident.
However, the employee's adult son was around and reportedly made a cameo appearance on surveillance video around the time of the burglary. And when Neafus was grabbed, he had all but one vial of the stolen goodies on him. Presumably, he wishes he'd gobbled them sooner.

South Metro Fire Rescue Authority BurglarySuspect In Custody
On April 22, 2010, at about 7:20 A.M., the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office was called to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority Administration Building to investigate a reported burglary. The South Metro Fire Rescue Authority reported that at 7:00 A.M., while conducting a routine inventory of medical supplies and drugs, it was discovered that the glass panel to a locked storage cabinet had been broken and drugs were missing. After conducting an inventory, it was determined that several packages of Versed, Morphine, Valium and Fentanyl were missing. There were no other signs of forced entry to the building.
A review of the building keycard reader data system revealed an access card issued to a South Metro employee, who was out of the state attending a training class, was used to gain access to the building and the narcotics room. Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies and South Metro Fire Rescue Commanders reviewed the building's surveillance video. Representatives of the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority recognized the possible burglary suspect as the adult son of a South Metro Employee.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Investigations Section and the Crime Lab responded to the South Metro Fire Authority Building to process the crime scene. ACSO Investigators and South Metro Drug Task Force Agents set up surveillance at the suspect's home. During the surveillance operation the suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was in possession of a portion of the stolen narcotics.
The suspect, Brian Neafus Jr. is being held at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detentions Facility on a $4,000.00 bond.
The suspect will be charged with violations of:
C.R.S. 18-4-203, Second Degree Burglary, a Felony 3 C.R.S. 18-4-401, Theft, Misdemeanor C.R.S. 18-4-501, Criminal Mischief, Misdemeanor
There was only one vial of the stolen narcotics that was not recovered by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies. It is presumed that the missing drug may have been used by the suspect.
