This month marks the tenth year since the great god of Gonzo, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, departed this mortal earth for the great gig in the sky.
Although he was a native of Kentucky, Thompson chose to call Colorado home and famously lived near Aspen beginning in the early 1960s.
But was he here earlier?
Newly uncovered evidence in our ongoing Cannabis Time Capsule excavations may show that Doc could have been out here years before that.
Okay, so the good doctor would have only been seven years old at the time of this extremely random (and hysterical) notice in the March 30, 1944 Steamboat Pilot — so he (probably) had nothing to do with it.
But we’re sure the hashish-loving man who used to pen fake letters to the editors of the Aspen Times would have appreciated the subtle and irreverent drug humor just the same.
