In a release sent out on Friday, the Colorado Springs Police Department says it is looking for vandals in two cases that they do not believe are connected. Officials confirm today that they are still looking for suspects.
In the first case, suspects allegedly defaced a property on the northwest side of the city at the corner of Rockrimmon and Allegheny, spraypainting a swastika on menorah.
On the south side, the words "I hate black people" were spraypainted on the side of a car. Photos that police shared on Facebook show that the message was painting in large blue letters on a white car, with an exclamation mark at the end.
Here's a photo of the vandalized car and a shot of the vehicle after the graffiti was removed."There is no room for this type of behavior here in Colorado Springs," Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach said in a statement. "It is my hope that the perpetrators are found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
The Colorado Springs Gazette says that "I love the devil" was also found on a sign at Calvary Baptist Church.
According to the police department, its Graffiti Team has fixed up over 4,000 vandalized locations this year.
And at least some good came out of all of this. On its Facebook page, the police, while noting that the racist comments painted on the vehicle "proved extremely hurtful and unsettling to the victim," then add: "The victim was pleasantly surprised to see her car look almost new again after our Graffiti Team responded to provide assistance."
