The homicide victim's name is not being released at this time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Previous release, 5:10 a.m. July 18:

On July 18, 2010, at 12:34 am, the Denver Police Department received numerous calls regarding a disturbance and a shooting in the area of 18th Avenue and King Street.

When officers arrived in the area witnesses told them there had been a shooting at 3436 West 18th Avenue. As the officers moved towards the shooting victim, they encountered a man with a gun. Officers ordered the man to drop the gun and he refused to do so. One officer fired a single shot at the suspect and struck him. That suspect was transported to Denver Health Medical Center and is now under arrest in stable condition. Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene.

While continuing their investigation, officers immediately located a shooting victim on the front porch of 3436 West 18th Avenue. The victim in that shooting was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers were able to identify a suspect related to the homicide and arrested him there. To clarify, there are two parties in custody, from two incidents, which both occurred in very close proximity. One party was arrested related to the officer involved shooting and a second party was arrested related to a homicide.

The identity of both suspects will be released when confirmed and the Office of the Medical Examiner will release the identity of the homicide victim when they have made that determination.
