David Dolan, Colorado State Patrol officer, arrested for investigation of driving drunk in squad car

Usually, Colorado State Patrol officers respond to reports of erratic driving. But this morning, things worked the other way around. Motorists complained about problems relating to a CSP vehicle, leading to a stop by Douglas County Sheriff's Office personnel that was captured by a cameraman aboard Channel 9's helicopter and transmitted to viewers statewide.

And now? The DCSO confirms that CSP officer David Dolan, 48, has been arrested for investigation of driving under the influence. He's being booked at this writing. We'll update this post as developments warrant. Meanwhile, here's the details DCSO has released to date:

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Arrested for Investigation of DUI

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY: Douglas County deputies took a Colorado State Patrol Trooper into custody for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Shortly before 7:00 am on March 22, 2010, Douglas County Dispatch received multiple calls from citizens reporting that a marked Colorado State Patrol vehicle was driving erratically on northbound I-25, just before the Castle Rock area. The call was transferred to State Patrol due to the driving complaint being on I-25 and referring to a CSP vehicle. Shortly after 7:00 am, our dispatch centered received a call from State Patrol asking for our assistance in locating the vehicle and checking on the welfare of the driver.

Around 7:05 am, a Douglas County Deputy spotted the vehicle on westbound C470 at Santa Fe and was able to pull the vehicle over at Platte Canyon and C470. After contacting the driver, who was confirmed to be a Colorado State Trooper in full uniform, he was taken into custody for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Trooper has been identified as David Dolan, 48 years of age. He was taken to the Douglas County Detentions Facility and is in the process of being booked in on charges of DUI, DUI Per Se, and Prohibited Use of Weapons.

We have been in contacting with Colorado State Patrol Command Staff and they will be issuing a statement shortly.
