The Golden Police Department has identified the man who died in a terrible crash last week as David Oursler, a forty year old from Morrison.

Oursler's Facebook page reveals a man who loved the great outdoors and the Republican party, which he served as a Jefferson County commiteeman.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. September 19 on Colfax in Golden, according to a GPD news release from spokeswoman Karen Tilley, a Chevy S-10 pickup truck driven by Oursler wound up in the eastbound lanes of westbound Colfax, The release notes that toxicology results are expected back in a couple of weeks, but investigators say they may never know what led to this change in direction. There's no doubt about the awful results, however: Oursler's truck collided head-on with a white Toyota Tundra pickup occupied by Golden resident Frederick Zacherl, 35, and his six-year-old son.

Zacherl and his son survived the wreck; they were treated at a local hospital and released that evening. But Oursler's truck caught fire, and while witnesses were able to put out the blaze using fire extinguishers, their success was temporary. They tried but failed to free Oursler, who was pinned in the wreckage -- and then, notes the police account, the truck caught fire again. In the end, Oursler died of smoke inhalation.

Originally from Princeton, Indiana, Oursler worked at Western Metals Recycling and taught Wednesday night Bible study at Faith Baptist Church in Lakewood. And then there was his political side, which he describes in this passage.

As a committeeman, I serve in Jefferson County Precinct 2162530058, which includes the town of Morrison and some of the outlying areas east of town (as of 2013, we will be in the Second U.S. Congressional District). In this capacity, I act as a liaison between the GOP and the community at large. Additionally, I was a delegate to both the Jefferson County and Colorado State Assemblies. At these, I have endorsed pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-Constitution candidates, and I will continue to support such candidates in future campaigns!
Following the wreck, one of his sisters posted the following:

RIP DAVE OURSLER, my brother and my kids' uncle. He will be missed very much. He was killed tragically a couple days ago in a bad car accident and we just found out last night. Prayers to the family.
Here are some photos of Oursler from his Facebook page, including one featuring his beloved dog, Midnight.
