Dewayne Brown, 15, ID'd as Alleged Teen Robber Slain by Aurora Mover

Update: The Arapahoe County coroner's office has identified the person killed in an incident last Friday at a condominium complex in Aurora as Dewayne Lamonte Quenvell Brown.

He was fifteen when he died. He would have celebrated his sixteenth birthday if he'd lived five days longer.

According to the coroner, he had been shot twice

As we noted in our previous coverage, on view below, three men were moving into a condo at 431 South Kalispell Way late on Friday, May 29, when they were allegedly approached by three juveniles who tried to rob them at gunpoint.

One of the thus-far-unidentified movers responded by pulling out a gun of his own and opening fire, striking all three of the youths. Two were injured (they haven't been ID'd, either), while the third, Brown, died as a result of his wounds.

Most of the content on Brown's Facebook page is private. However, photos are visible, including the following profile pic, posted on May 24, just five days before Brown died:


The three movers were questioned and released with no charges filed against them to date — and comments made by 18th Judicial District DA George Brauchler in a news conference about the case that's on view below suggest that such accusations are exceedingly unlikely.

Brauchler stressed that even if the mover who fired the fatal shots didn't have a concealed-carry permit, he still would have been able to legally defend himself if confronted by an armed gunman.

Friends and relatives of Brown have taken to social media to express their sadness about his death. And even observers who feel the mover did the right thing in this case have expressed regret that one so young should have died in this fashion, as a recent Comment of the Day demonstrates.

Original post, 7:14 a.m. June 1: Shootings in Aurora have made headlines of late, no doubt displeasing city representatives, who continue to fight against the reputation that the community has a violent-crime problem.

And an episode that took place late Friday night, May 29, will only make the need for an image makeover that much more acute, since it involved someone moving into a condo in the community.


He is said to have avoided becoming a robbery victim only by shooting the alleged perpetrators.

Three juveniles were hit in the exchange, with one of them dying as a result of the gunfire.

The incident happened at the Bayberry condominium complex, located at 431 South Kalispell Way.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on the 29th, according to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded to the scene and found two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were transported to an area hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other received treatment after being admitted in serious condition.

In the meantime, a third juvenile with a gunshot wound to the shoulder walked into a medical facility on his own.

He's said to be in custody on a charge unrelated to the shooting — but that could change given the scenario sketched out by three men who say a trio of youths targeted them as they moved into Bayberry.


The movers, as the APD has branded them, say they were approached by the juveniles, who allegedly tried to rob them at gunpoint.

In response, the third mover drew a firearm and shot in the direction of the suspects, striking all three.

Thus far, neither the movers nor the three juveniles have been identified.

Meanwhile, a weekend press conference about the incident featured Aurora Police Chief Nicholas Metz and 18th Judicial District DA George Brauchler, who's currently in the national spotlight owing to the trial of Aurora theater shooter James Holmes.


The investigation of what went down at the Bayberry is still ongoing.

However, Brauchler stressed that even if the shooter didn't have a concealed carry permit, he had the right to defend himself if someone pulled a gun on him, as was reportedly the case.
