Fashion Week: Sunday

It was more of the same at New York Fashion Week. More '80s, more blousy, formless shifts, more middle finger to the female form. Cat doesn't expect everything to be all va-va-va voom, but unless you're a pre-pubescent girl or starve yourself into looking like one, most of the fall...

It was more of the same at New York Fashion Week. More '80s, more blousy, formless shifts, more middle finger to the female form. Cat doesn't expect everything to be all va-va-va voom, but unless you're a pre-pubescent girl or starve yourself into looking like one, most of the fall clothes will make you look like you're wearing a giant, unflattering sack.

Even the great Diane Von Furstenberg showed a few of these dresses, although Cat gives her props for making them the most beautiful and elegant of giant unflattering sacks. Moral to the story: If you're going to follow this trend, go big or go home. Spend the money and get a gorgeous dress -- that way, perhaps no one will notice that you could have just stepped into a Hefty bag.

Here's Cat's wrap-up of the day's faves and flames:

A lovely structured jacket by Tracy Reese. The stockings in her show were also spectacular. Cat's so glad the silk leg is coming back again next fall.

There's something very wispy and Summer of Love about Erin Fetherston's slim creation. Plus, it's not a sack.

THE GOOD: 3.1 Phillip Lim shows a mod take on the unflattering sack. Still, it's very pretty. If Cat could, she'd wear it.

This Tadashi jacket almost looks like Middle Ages armor. Cat loves it.

United Bamboo brings us this boxy suit. Cat wishes the jacket had a better fit, but the oversized buttons on the skirt seem to balance everything out.

A gorgeous burnt umber on this Twinkle by Wenlan.

Cat loves the sleeves and other detailing on Twinkle by Wenlan's version of the season's dress. Plus, the red tights are a snappy touch.

Alice in Wonderland puts a tea cozy on her head? And btw, dropped-waist dresses never look good post-elementary school.

Matthew Williamson decided to show us what Whoopi will be wearing on the remake of Next Generation. Either that, or these clothes were actually meant for a plus-size (meaning, size eight) show and somehow the racks got switched.

Maybe Luella Bartley's model woke up late, got confused and just accidentally wandered down the runway before she could go through hair, makeup and clothing. At least we can hope.

THE BAD: Um, Heidi goes to Amsterdam? What gives, Erin Fetherston?

United Bamboo offers this suit that flatters no one and creates the illusion of appendages. Stupendous!

THE AMUSING: Benjamin Cho's dress is like a cocktail twist on a bad glass.

The model looks very good in this Twinkle by Wenlan sweater dress. But Cat sees the elongated chunky sweater trend going terribly wrong on the streets of Denver.

Does Cat really need to explain why this is wholly and entirely awful? Mainly because Cat wasn't fashionable in junior high, and she's pretty sure she wore that. Thanks for the flashback, United Bamboo.
