KOA talk-show host Bob Newman, known to fans and foes alike as Gunny Bob, has received plenty of honors over time, many of them related to his service in the Marine Corps. Yet the plaudit that came his way on August 3 topped (or perhaps bottomed) any previous salute. On that day, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann named Newman the Worst Person in the World. Moreover, the Gunny one achieved his status at the expense of both Bill O'Reilly and George W. Bush, who were respectively declared to be "Worse" and "Worser."
Newman made his mark by badly misinterpreting comments made by Wesley Clark, who'd previously guested on Countdown With Keith Olbermann. During the segment in question, Clark said that the cover-up of information related to the death of Pat Tillman -- including the possibility that the NFL player turned soldier was murdered -- likely reached to the highest levels of government. However, Newman insisted that Clark had claimed Tillman was assassinated on orders of the President. Close, but no IED.
