Kevin Riley Allegedly Stabbed Man on Super Bowl Sunday Over Loud TV Gripe

Thanks to Denver's win in Super Bowl 50, and the parade and rally scheduled for today, all of Colorado seems to have Broncos fever.

But not everyone appears to be thrilled about the way some folks are reacting to the victory.

In our item about post-game celebrations in downtown Denver that led to twelve arrests on Sunday night, we shared video of a man who can be heard yelling "Fuck it, Broncos fans — you bitches" before hurling an object into the crowd.

And now comes a report out of Colorado Springs about a stabbing on Super Bowl Sunday over a loud TV — and while we don't know for certain that the person who turned a knife on the complaining party was watching the game, the time of the report (it was filed at 9:50 p.m. on February 7) suggests that's the likeliest possibility.

The incident took place on the 400 block of East Kiowa in Colorado Springs. The area is captured in the following interactive graphic; if you have problems seeing the image, click "View on Google Maps."


The victim, identified by the Colorado Springs Police Department as James Mitchell, is said to have felt his downstairs neighbor, Kevin Riley, had the volume on his television set too high.

In response to the racket, the CSPD account continues, he knocked on Riley's door with a small wooden bat.

At that point, a witness reported that Riley opened his door, grabbed Mitchell and hurled him to the ground.

Then, Riley allegedly stabbed Mitchell several times in the back and sides.

Somehow, Mitchell managed to avoid serious bodily injuries during the scuffle; he was treated and released from an area hospital. Meanwhile, a search was conducted at Riley's apartment, and following the recovery of unspecified evidence, he was taken into custody on suspicion of assault.
