Marijuana arrests reestablish Broomfield as CO's grow-bust leader: Suck it, Boulder County!

This week, discovery of a 3,000-plus plant marijuana grow in Boulder County was followed by the uprooting of a nearby 4,000-plant grow.

Did Broomfield authorities take these seizures as a challenge to their reputation for marijuana-grow arrests? Maybe -- because today brings yet another one, accompanied by arrests of Joseph Walters, Jason Tye and Tandy McDaniel.

The August arrest of Johnny Jones for marijuana cultivation was hardly an isolated incident. As we noted in that post, Broomfield cops, typically assisted by officers from the North Metro Task Force, have busted one marijuana grow after another after another.

Moreover, the Broomfield City Council recently voted to ban medical marijuana businesses in the community. Advocates responded with an MMJ petition drive to put the question on the November ballot, and they succeeded, as noted in a recent interview with Sensible Colorado's Brian Vicente.

Meanwhile, Boulder County commissioners declined to challenge a land-use department ruling okaying a plan for a marijuana farm.

Think that'd fly in Broomfield? Doubt it.

Look below (and page down) to see photos of Tye, McDaniel and Walters, as well as a release from the Broomfield Police Department:

Broomfield Police Department release:

Tip from residents leads to arrest of three males for marijuana cultivation

On Thursday, September 2, 2010 at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Broomfield Police Department and North Metro Drug Task Force initiated contact with the residents of a home located in the 100 block of Peregrine Circle, after receiving a tip from residents that there was a marijuana grow in the house.

The officers were allowed to search the residence and found 213 live marijuana plants and 235 oz. of dried marijuana product.

The residents, Jason Tye (091871), Joseph Walters (011777), and Tandy McDaniel (011478) were arrested and transported to the Broomfield Detention Center where they were booked and released pending filing of charges. The plants and growing equipment were seized.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Broomfield Police Department at 303-438-6400.
