That news about Denver's murder decrease in 2009 rings hollow in the face of recent bloodshed. There have ben eight homicides in the metro area since December 22, and three in Denver proper between January 1 and today, including an early hours shooting that reportedly involved a medical marijuana transaction.
At this point, the Denver Police Department is releasing only the barest of details. The incident took place on the 2600 block of North Leyden Street, an area captured in the graphic above (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map"). A man was found at the location with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Later, a second man who'd been shot made his way to Denver Health, subsequently telling authorities that the lead had started flying due to a medical marijuana deal gone wrong.
