Folks reacted strongly to our post about Casey Nocket, who has pleaded guilty to defacing Rocky Mountain National Park, the Colorado National Monument and five other national parks in the west.

As we noted, Nocket used acrylic paint rather than chalk to create her "artworks" — something she admitted in captions to photos she shared on Instagram under the name Creepytings.

The vitriol aimed at Nocket, who has been sentenced to probation and community service (with a restitution ruling yet to come), was so extreme that the following reader attacked the attacks — and while his words are specific to her, they also speak to the issue of online civility.

And, all too often, the lack of it.

Brandon Maille writes:
"Dumb bitch." "Piece of shit." "She should have her face tattooed." "I wish I was there to throw her off the mountain." "Ugly stupid asshole."

You commentators have a lot of hate in your heart. Like... wayyyy too much. I don't condone her actions, but 200 hours of community service, restitution (paying for the damage to be repaired) and two years probation seem to fit the crime. Not to mention the online ridicule she has and will continue to receive.

With all the horrific things going on in this world, you pathetic commenters hiding behind your keyboard spouting terribly derogatory names is the real "disgusting" part of all this. Her damage will be removed and justice was served. I bet none of you NEVER did anything dumb as a 21 year old. Use some discretion in your comments and stop spreading hate. I guarantee this girl feels shitty and bad for what she did — that's why she pleaded guilty.

Lastly, in her defense — at least she's out exploring our beautiful country instead of being like you commenters sitting on your asses spreading vile when justice was already served. I don't agree with what she did, but you can disagree with a 21-year-old's dumb actions (that didn't actually hurt anyone) in better ways than disgusting cheap jabs on the Internet. Y'all motherfuckers need a heavy dose of looking in the mirror before casting stones.
