Tommy Ogden, Rene's husband, discovered the bodies and cooperated with authorities from the beginning. As for how these deaths fit into the larger picture of crime in Colorado Springs, Noblitt notes that "Olivia and Chase's homicides are the 20th and 21st in the city this year. There were seventeen this time last year."

Colorado Springs Police Department release:
As was previously reported, at approximately 3:20 PM on 10-4-2010 the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was dispatched to 1941 Essex Lane to investigate a report of a deceased adult female. When officers arrived on scene they checked the home and located the body of the adult female and they discovered the bodies of two deceased teenage children in the home as well. The Violent Crimes Section Homicide Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Based on the obvious trauma to the bodies the homicide unit began investigating this case as suspected homicides. The investigation into the cause and manner of these deaths is continuing in conjunction with the District Attorney's Office and the El Paso County Coroner's Office. The reporting party, identified as Tommy Ogden, was interviewed by investigators. He said he returned home from work and after walking into the home quickly discovered the deceased body of his wife, 38 year old Rene Ogden, he then called police to report the discovery. When officers arrived on scene they entered the home and observed Rene's deceased body and went on to secure the home. They then discovered two additional victims which were their 13 year old twin children, Chase and Olivia. All people in the home have been accounted for. The investigation is still in its early stages and there is no further information that can be released at this time. No arrests have been made in connection with this investigation.
It is expected that the El Paso County Coroner's Office will conduct autopsies on the victims in the next day or so to determine cause and manner of death.
