WHAT STARTED AS "SEXTING" LANDS CALIFORNIA MAN IN COLORADO PRISON FOR 4 YEARSGREELEY, Colo. -- This morning in Weld County District Court, 20-year-old Geovany Alarcon (DOB 6/12/89) was sentenced to four years in prison for a crime he committed against a 17-year-old Weld County girl. Alarcon, a college student at San Jose State University (CA), pled guilty on October 8, 2009, to Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class three felony. In addition to the four year prison sentence, Alarcon will also have to complete five years of mandatory parole, submit to DNA testing and pay court fines and fees.
On December 10, 2008, law enforcement officers responded to a call from a mother who was concerned about correspondence her daughter was having with a male via the internet and cell phone text messages - this male was demanding money from her daughter (the victim) and threatening blackmail, by saying he would distribute her images, if the money wasn't sent.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the victim and the defendant met on the social networking site MySpace. Through continued correspondence via instant messaging and text messaging, the defendant asked the victim to send photos of herself to him. He then requested nude photos and videos of the victim participating in sexual acts - which she complied with. At one point the defendant demanded that the victim molest a younger girl and send the video of that act to him; he threatened that if she refused, he would send photos and videos of the victim to her friends (which he knew through her MySpace page). The victim, who refused to harm another child, asked the defendant if there was anything else she could do to prevent him from distributing the images. The defendant then demanded $1,500 from the victim.
