The symbiotic interplay between seemingly antithetical forces of nature -- trees and wildfires -- forms the underlying theme in artist Anna Kaye's fastidiously detailed drawings in charcoal, graphite and watercolor, which offer a near-photographic view of a forest in ruins coming back to life. Both eerie and inspirational, the works on paper that comprise Kaye's new exhibit, Apparition, at the Sandra Phillips Gallery, play out these little botanical dramas both in somber, misty black and white and dewy color (and sometimes in an emergent crossover). Ultimately, you'll understand, the forest wins out.

See Kaye's beautiful works today during a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 744 Santa Fe Drive; the exhibit then continues through October 17. And in keeping with the show's delicate message, 10 percent of all sales will go to the Colorado State Forest Service to provide funding for fire management programs. Get details at the gallery website.com or call 303-573-5969.
