The competition for the Best in Show Auction at the mid-century/modern emporium Mod Livin' has never been stiffer: The long list of local artists, designers and mod-livin' citizens who've undertaken to decorate one of the shop's plain white Eero Aarnio plastic puppies for this year's third annual Downtown Animal Care Foundation fundraiser is huge and crammed with creativity, and anyone who tried to go online to vote for a favorite (the poll closed last night at midnight) surely must have spent way too much time trying to decide.

From the adorable roller skating mutt, courtesy of the Denver Roller Dolls, to Plus Gallery's elegant Raphael rip-off by Jonathan Saiz, this year's doggie crop is whimsical, hilarious, witty, adorable and gorgeous, plus a few more superlatives we couldn't fit in.

It all culminates tonight at 7 p.m. at Mod Livin', 5327 E. Colfax Avenue, with a glitzy live auction for the top vote-getters, as well as one cute canine signed by Eero Aarnio, the puppy designer himself, that also comes with a personal letter from the creator.

To add to the fun, Mod Livin' will put out a spread of wine and eats from local restaurants and Baby Vamp will perform; admission is free, but donations to DACF are appreciated. Visit Mod Livin' online or call 303-941-9292 for the scoop on the poop.
