You've got to hand it to the folks at etown. In addition to running a class operation, Boulder trailblazers Nick and Helen Forster were clearly ahead of their time when they first melded eco-centric interviews and musical performances into a radio show eighteen years ago. The first couple of green have been chugging along, doing what they do ever since, even as a pack of youngsters are beginning to jump on the eco-bandwagon now that it's become fashionable. That's okay. The earth needs all the friends it can get these days, but it's more than a little bit touching to see etown celebrate another birthday, still blazing the trail.

At tonight's anniversary celebration, 7 p.m. at the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street, in Boulder, the Forsters will present their E-Chievement Award to Stacie Gilmore of Environmental Learning for Kids, a nonprofit that encourages urban youth to volunteer for environmental programs, and showcase two totems of American music: bluegrass icon Ralph Stanley and his Clinch Mountain Boys and seminal folk scenester Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Classic, all the way.

Admission to the show is $30; go to the Boulder Theater website or call the box office at 303-786-7030 for tickets. Log on to etown for more information.
