For art with a serious underground vibe, head on over to INDYINK, 84 South Broadway, for a cash-and-carry show of affordable works by the ingenious Westword Mastermind Ravi Zupa, which riff off of Dürer's skillfully detailed prints and drawings yet bloom conceptually out of modern concerns. INDYINK's Chris Huth says it's certain to be sell-out, so don't dawdle if you want a piece of Zupa. The reception is from 7 to 10 p.m., taking place just a step away from 3 Kings Tavern, 60 S. Broadway, where Bands for Lands will host an endOtrend Awareness Party beginning at 8 p.m. There, you can spend the evening with local bands Black Sheep Brigade, Primasonic, Travels Faster and Bedsit Infamy and also pick up an eco-friendly Ticket-Tee that serves as an admission ticket to endOtrend, an art, music and film festival taking place on the Auraria campus on October 3. Or if you're more in the mood to take in a movie, travel across town to the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, where local filmmaker Matt Myers premieres the documentary Tar Creek, a stark look at one of the nation's worst SuperFund sites, a lead-and-zinc mine located in northeastern Oklahoma. Myers, who experienced the toxic devastation of the area firsthand as a worker, was so haunted by what he saw that he decided to make the film. See it tonight at 7:30 p.m., and stay afterward for a concert with bluesman Watermelon Slim, who provided the soundtrack. Admission is $10; call 303-455-2124. And on the lighter side, the Starz FilmCenter is revving up a new, creep show-themed Watching Hour Late-Night Film Series, which started last week.
