In his latest work, first generation Cuban-American artist Anthony Giocolea explores his heritage and the sense of loss he feels for family members he's never met in a number of pointedly fleeting ways. In Related, a new exhibit by Giocolea at the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver, this self-reflective process is most directly confronted in his diptych portraits pairing photographic family portraits that are posed and presented in a nostalgic style with painstaking graphite drawings that resemble a negative-film image of the original. And in other works, drawn portraits are rolled in bottles placed on a seawall installation evoking the sense of family across the ocean.

The museum is at 1485 Delgany Street. Giocolea's haunting exhibition opens today in MCA's Laura and David Merage Photography Gallery and continues through June 28 ;a public reception takes place on Friday evening from 6 to 10 p.m. Visit the MCA website or call 303-298-7554 for information.
