Toshio Gilmore Shot to Death in Lowry, No Suspects in Custody (26)

What began as an unattended death investigation on New Year's Eve quickly turned into a homicide inquiry. Now, the victim, Toshio Gilmore, has been identified, but no arrests have been made in the case. Here's the latest.

First news of the incident came via this Denver Police Department tweet:

ALERT: #DPD currently conducting two separate outside death investigations. One at 5th & Alton, other at 50th & Elliot. No add'l info.

The DPD subsequently noted that there were no signs of foul play in the 50th and Elliot matter. But that wasn't the situation at the Renaissance Apartments, a Lowry neighborhood complex at 550 Alton Way that's captured in the following interactive graphic (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map"):

A couple of hours after the tweet above, Denver police offered this followup:

UPDATE: Death investigation at 5th & Alton now being investigated as a homicide. #Denver

Days later, a DPD crime bulletin filled in the details. The release notes that officers responded to the apartments on a report of a man "possibly passed out on a couch." The victim, subsequently ID'd as Gilmore, was dead upon their arrival, and before long, authorities determined that he'd been shot.

The DPD has shared the following photo of Gilmore: Other images linger on an old MySpace page, including the photo at the top of this post and the following image, which features a shot of Gilmore's heavily muscled and inked torso: Messages of condolence have been collecting on a relative's Facebook page. We add ours to Gilmore's family, friends and loved ones.

In the meantime, no information about possible suspects has been issued to date. However, Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest. The number to call is suspects involved in this case please 720-913-STOP (7867).
