And we're not talking about all the new bars popping up in the hot LoHi area.
A water main break at West 29th Avenue and Zuni Street sent torrents of water cascading through the neighborhood -- which includes Stoneman's Row, the historic block of West 28th Avenue where I live.
The break brought neighbors out to marvel at the mess, pray their cars didn't wash away, and gossip about the potential sale of Denver Public Schools' Contemporary Learning Academy just up the street...and out of the flood.
And down below the bluff, where the water ultimately wound up, I-25 suddenly looked like beachfront property.Drought? What drought?
Denver Water finally completely shut off the water to the 24-inch conduit, which had ruptured at 7 p.m. Crews are still working to repair the pipe, and 29th Avenue remains closed between Zuni and Wyandot streets; the 15th Street viaduct is blocked off, too.
Denver Water issued an update on the status of the repairs shortly after 11 a.m. this morning: Because the crew has identified a longer section of the pipe that needs fixing, it is excavating an additional section of the road. Because of this work, repairs are now expected to be completed by 10 p.m.
In the meantime, about forty residential units -- including one apartment building and three commercial buildings -- are without water on 29th Avenue between Federal Boulevard and Umatilla Street; Denver Water is delivering bottled water to customers impacted by the water outage.
And LoHi is once again high and dry.
