Take, for instance, Wilbur Leonard Pugh, who's accused of damaging his girlfriend's car. And seventeen others. At a prayer meeting.
The arrest is fresh, but the incident itself goes back to January. Around 6 p.m. on the 29th of that month, as noted by 7News in a report published shortly thereafter, members of the Trinity Prayer Group heading to The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park, a vintage structure converted into a church, discovered that someone had thrown rocks at numerous windows, breaking them.
The group held a prayer meeting anyhow. But when members emerged, they discovered that someone had poured gel-based paint stripper over eighteen cars parked outside. Here's one photo of the damage provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office....
...and another.... ...and another: As you can see, the substance ate away the cars' paint down to the bare metal. Original damage estimates were north of $40,000, but now, the JCSO puts the cost at more than $56,000.The tale soon faded from the headlines, but JCSO Investigator Kent Ferris continued to work the case, and the evidence eventually led him to Pugh, whose actions are said to have been "domestic-related."
How so? His former girlfriend was attending the prayer meeting that evening, and her car was among those damaged.
If the JCSO is correct, Pugh's rage at his ex-squeeze either transferred over to her prayerful friends, or else he just had really bad aim. Whatever the case, he was arrested at his home in Lone Tree on suspicion of felony criminal mischief and domestic violence/harassment-stalking.
