Number 70: French dip from Udi's Bread Cafe

Udi Baron, Denver's unofficial bread head, masterbaker and the sandwichman behind Udi's Bread Cafe in Stapleton (and Louisville, Olde Town Arvada, Aurora and north Denver), knows how to make doughboys and girls happy: Offer a menu littered with some of the best sandwiches in the city. Take, for example, the French dip, elsewhere a skimp of gray matter, cheap cheese and au jus from a paper packet. But at Udi's, it morphs into layers of medium-rare roast beef on a warm and crusty baguette paved with aged Gouda, caramelized onions and aioli. The jus, rich and dark and full of flavor, seals the deal. One bite, and you'll understand why Baron precedes his French dip with the word "famous."
