Two of your favorite vices will combine at this weekend's Bourbon and Bacon Festival this weekend. But it that's too decadent for you, there are plenty of events around town that are a bit milder -- and probably easier on the waistband if you're still sticking to those new year's resolutions. Friday, January 23

Ian Kleinman, known for his Inventing Room food lab and catering company, will be hosting Molecular Donuts 4.0 Highlands at Sunnyside Burger Bar from 6 to 10:30 a.m. today, and he will be back every morning through January 25.

Stir Cooking School will host a Date Night: Miso Hungry class starting at 6:30 p.m. today. Participants will learn how to incorporate miso into everyday meals and traditional Japanese dishes. The class is $75; you can register at stirtolearn.com.

eTown Hall and Jax Fish House in Boulder will be teaming up for an evening celebrating the uncelebrated, the "by-catch of our global waters." Trash Fish Social begins at 6 p.m. at eTown Hall and is $50 per person. For tickets, click here.

Cook Street School of Culinary Arts will be offering a Bites N' Brews class today from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Cook Street chefs will guide you through a menu catering directly to the beers you will be enjoying. Tuition is $89 and you can register at cookstreet.com.

Saturday, January 24

From 10 a.m. to noon today, the Denver Botanic Gardens will be teaching participants how to cultivate and use herbs in their own back yards. Participants will learn how to plant, grow and care for the top perennial and annual herbs that do especially well in Colorado, and take home harvest and cooking tips to enhance meals. The class is $25; learn more here.

The Second Annual Bourbon & Bacon Fest will take over the McNichols Building today. The decadent festival will showcase some of Colorado's favorite whiskeys and bourbons, including Buffalo Trace, Fireball and 1792. And, of course, the bacon will be sizzling as well, with samples from restaurants around the area, including the Kachina, Sunnyside Burgers and Gigis. There will also be tasty, hog-inspired treats like bacon mac and cheese, bacon cupcakes and bourbon and bacon milkshakes. VIP entrance begins at 2 p.m. and general admission will start at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $45 to $95; you can get them here -- if there are any left.

FEED: Cold will be popping up again in Denver today. The popular pop-up dinner and performance will take place at Still Cellars starting at 7:30 p.m. Each course will be comprised of a drink, a dish and a short performance piece, and live music will weave the whole night together. Tickets are $40 per person and can be bought at brownpapertickets.com.

At the Denver Botanic Gardens's Aromatherapy Basics and Beyond class, you'll learn aromatherapy basics including history, methods of use and safety, blending, pathways of absorption and recipes. Essences explored include lavender, rosemary, sage, orange, lime, peppermint, tea tree, thyme, eucalyptus and chamomile; students will receive an extensive book full of recipes and information, an aroma-therapeutic personal inhaler, aroma-therapeutic spritz and massage oil. The class runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Tuition is $59; learn more here.

Sunday, January 25

Broken Shovels Farm and the Cultured Series are teaming up for a Open Farm Day from 1 to 3 p.m. today. There will be hot drinks by the fire, cheese tastings and screenings from the Cultured Series, which is raising funds to produce a Denver-based series about two young men working in a "cheese and specialty" department in an independent grocery store in Colorado. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring cat food or litter to benefit the new Broken Shovels Cat Sanctuary.

An annual Scottish celebration, Burns Night at Argyll Whisky Beer, commemorates the life of bard Robert Burns on his birthday, January 25, also known as Robert Burns Day. Argyll chef John Broening is planning a special dinner menu, complete with several elevated variations of haggis, for diners interested in a culinary and cultural celebration of Scotland.
